A menswear collection designed by a СʪÃÃÊÓƵ Leicester (СʪÃÃÊÓƵ) student took two top awards at this year’s Fashanne Awards.
Marcel Wargocki, who studies Fashion Design at СʪÃÃÊÓƵ, claimed the Paul Smith-sponsored Designer Menswear Award 2025 for his final-year collection. As part of the award he receives a paid internship with Paul Smith in Nottingham.
Marcel also went on to win The Daniel Hanson Award - a best in show prize recognising outstanding overall achievement and selected by judges from among all Fashanne finalists.

Unusually, the idea behind Marcel's designs survived largely intact from the experimental pre-collection stage all the way to through to completion of his final year project.
Marcel explained that his collection is subtly influenced by ideas of censorship he found in the award-winning documentary Searching for Sugar Man.
“I didn’t want to show it too literally,” he said, “but it appears in the quiet, stripped-down nature of the clothes, and that’s something I gravitate towards naturally. In the collection I have taken different garment archetypes and put them together, and chosen different fabrications, like eveningwear wools and heavy workwear canvases, and combined them r in the same garment to show the contrast.
"I am aiming for something that is beautiful and wearable, and that still has this subtle back story of how it came to be.”

Other СʪÃÃÊÓƵ winners were Mara James who took the ASBCI Innovation Award, and Holly Doyle who won the The Commercial Design Award.

Jamie O’Grady from СʪÃÃÊÓƵ’s renowned footwear course claimed the Fashanne Footwear & Accessory Design Award, having also won the prestigious 2025 Student Footwear Designer of the Year award run by revered fashion industry publication, Drapers.
A total of 13 СʪÃÃÊÓƵ students were in the running as finalists across the categories of the Fashanne Awards, which were founded by BBC presenter Anne Davies to showcase young talent.
The 2025 award ceremony was co-hosted by businessman and star of BBC’s Great British Sewing Bee, Patrick Grant, who was also the lead judge.
Patrick, who is routinely cited as one of the Britain’s best dressed men, said: “The standard at Fashanne is phenomenal…Britain’s design schools have an extraordinary track record in developing world-leading fashion talent. It’s humbling to know the future of fashion is in safe hands.”
Professor Carolyn Hardaker, Head of СʪÃÃÊÓƵ’s School of Fashion & Textiles, said: “As one of the leading centres for the study of all things fashion-related, СʪÃÃÊÓƵ traditionally turns in a strong performance in the fashion awards season, but our students have made an exceptional showing this year. Not only have we had so many award winners, but we also had an astonishing number of talented СʪÃÃÊÓƵ students shortlisted as finalists for awards covering all areas of our teaching.
"It just goes to show how much strength and depth we have here at the School of Fashion and Textiles.”
